About Kwaku Ansa-Asare

Founder, MountCrest University College | Dean, MountCrest University College | Senior Legal and Education Consultant | Policy Architect | Visionary Leader

Kwaku Ansa-Asare is a pioneering force in Ghana’s legal and education sectors, with over four decades of impact as a legal practitioner, institution-builder, policy advisor, and academic leader. He is widely recognised as the founding father of modern legal education in Ghana, having shaped not only national institutions but also the strategic future of access to justice and legal empowerment across West Africa.

As the founder of MountCrest University College, he established the first private law faculty in Ghana designed to democratise access to legal education for underserved and non-traditional students. His leadership gave rise to what is to be known as MountCrest Law School, an institution undergoing a full transformation into a specialist national centre of excellence for legal education and governance, guided by Mr. Ansa-Asare’s vision and lifelong dedication to socially relevant, civic-minded legal training.

Previously, he served as Director of Legal Education at the Ghana School of Law, where he introduced far-reaching reforms in legal curriculum, pedagogy, examination standards, and professional ethics. His role in expanding pathways into legal training for women, mature students, and professionals has left a lasting mark on the legal profession.

A barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana since 1981,

Mr. Ansa-Asare is the founder of Hencil Chambers, a respected law firm known for its civil, constitutional, and public interest litigation. He was also legal consultant to the Committee of Experts that drafted Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, playing a historic role in laying the foundations of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

His expertise extends beyond law to national education policy. He chaired the Ministerial Committee on the National Education Regulatory Bodies (Amendment) Bill, providing key guidance on regulatory reform, accreditation, and institutional governance across the education landscape.

Over his 45-year academic career, he has taught and mentored thousands of legal professionals and public servants at the University of Ghana, the Ghana School of Law, MountCrest University College and multiple universities across West Africa. His work has consistently bridged education, justice, and nation-building.

At Horsham Consulting, Mr. Ansa-Asare serves as Senior Legal and Education Consultant, advising on national and institutional reform projects, legal and regulatory frameworks, curriculum transformation, and strategic education governance from basic to tertiary levels. His legacy continues to inspire bold, justice-oriented reform across Ghana’s legal and academic systems.
